Josefina has a friend. And anyway, sisters and cousins can be friends.
I personally don't think I would want a friend doll made for every character. But if they did really go with this idea and made all the friends into dolls, I would want Agatha and Agnes to be made into dolls. They're friends of Samantha's too!

Believe it or not, I had the idea for friend dolls before AG did. My first two dolls were an AG of Today (named Mary after me) and a Kit doll. Since my daughter already had a Kit, I decided that mine would be Mary's best friend named Carly.
When I first saw Kaya, she was Singing Bird to me. I have always had a weakness for Indian dolls so of course I had to have her. Then of course I needed Kirsten as well. They get along very well!
My next doll was Addy and she was pretty much friendless until yesterday. I would have liked to have gotten a Sarah for her, but untl AG comes out with another dark skinned doll, I decided that I would create another friend for her. I have been having imagining the next part of Addy's story while I have been searching for the perfect doll to join her. I believe I have found her in the AG of Today with Honey Blonde Curls and Hazel eyes. She looks fabulous in Addy's Striped dress. I am still not positive about her name, but I am leaning towards Melanie.
Another duo that I thought just had to be was Molly and Emily. When I got to the part in the story where they decided to dress alike and when they shared one pair of skates, I just knew they had to be together forever. I spent quite awhile looking at the available dolls and finally decided on the AG of Today with Blonde Hair and Blue Eyes. She has also just arrived and SHE IS Emily! I know the hair isn't exactly like in the illustrations, but girls do change hairstyles and it is a lovely color that looks like ginger to me. She has perfectly beautiful blue eyes and she looks gorgeous in Kit's clothes. I bet that she and Molly will scheme up some matching outfits as well.
Can you tell that I LOVE the idea of best friend dolls? LOL

DD's first AG was #7 and for a long time she had no name. 10 months later DD got Kit for Christmas and in the book, Ruthie kind of looked like our AGoT 7, so Kit instantly had a best friend and #7 finally got a name!
I am searching now to find a dress for "Ruthie" that would be historically correct, but not one of Kit's outfits.

I think that AG will pick a friend for the Historical girls if there are enough interesting things about her to create a book from. One of Mollys friends has what could be a Jewish name. That story line could be expaneded. Did relatives or friends "disappear" in Europe? Emilys experiences during the London blitz would make a good book too.
Kirstens cousins are too similar to her unless AG comes up with a story idea for them. Singing bird is too similar to Kaya.

I would like to see Kirsten's friend, Mary Brown, from school. The one with the brown curly hair in her birthday and changes stories (the Brown family sell the Larsons their new house in the "Changes" story).

The book would take place after Changes for Kirsten. Although that means if they did it for Mary Brown it would be on the Oregon trail, I think Kirsten would have to be in the story.

Ok, so they seem to be going with this best friend doll thing, and we have Nellie for Samantha, and we're presumably getting Elizabeth for Felicity. What about the girls with multiple friends or a distinct lack of one? Molly has three possibilities, Linda, Susan, and Emily. Josefina has only older sisters. Kirsten has younger and older cousins, but then there's Singing Bird. What do you think AG will do when faced with these dilemas?

p.s. Sorry if this has come up before. I searched but didn't find anything.

All of the girls have official best friends. I'm sure if they do one for Kirsten, it'll likely be Singing Bird. For Molly, I'd rather see them do Linda or Susan than Emily- (or getting really bold and doing both would be even better!) Linda and Susan are shown as Molly's best friends far more than Emily. I didn't realize one of them has a Jewish last name- that'd be awesome. Josefina would have her friend Mariana...even though she was only featured in one book.
I think a great reason to have friend dolls is now they can show another lifestyle from the same era. After all, not everyone in one decade had the same life- just look at the Dear America series. So far, AG has not done any overlaps. With Elizabeth, we get to see Williamsburg from a girl whose family is loyalist. With Singing Bird, we get to see a Native American family who does interact with white settlers- unlike Kaya. Mariana is also Native American, but from a very different tribe.

I would love to see AG make two more Native American or Indian dolls like you suggest, but I don't see it happening. I don't think that Kaya has been a big enough seller for them to bother adding another one like her, though I will keep hoping. In the meantime, my Kaya is doing a fine job as Kirsten's friend. : )
I love having two dolls that can share period clothes and accessories. I almost purchased Nellie and Samantha, but I am honestly having more fun with my made up friends. I love the AG stories and now I can use my imagination and pick up where they left off. It is great to be able to create a new character and make my own stories to go with each pair of dolls.
